Rogue Tulips 20"x25"
It is the nature of still life painting to make us look twice at an ordinary object or objects. An ordinary scarf becomes extraordinary when an artist decides it is worthy to be captured in paint or pastel. We can then be inspired to look at all objects in a different light, see a painting in the jumbled objects of our daily life.
I enjoy painting still life on occasion. When the peonies are in bloom each year I try a composition which I now call my ‘Annual Peony Painting’. The floral arrangement as a still life subject has a somewhat old-fashioned and sentimental connotation, and I enjoy challenging myself to experiment. I hope to one day find a way to paint a peony that transcends the sentimental and traditional.
Pastels - soft pastel on paper, framed with mats and glass. Canvases- silkscreen paint and acrylic on canvas, framed. Dimensions describe work before framing.
