Guelph and Area Cityscapes
When l ‘tackle’ a Cityscape painting en plein air, I find the architectural elements hard to place convincingly. The best approach for me is to throw them in quickly, step back and look. Then I blend all the pastel I’ve laid on with a 2-inch wide scraper to smear the surface and then start drawing again to correct the structure. It can take repeated attempts working in this manner, hence the word ’tackle’. I enjoy this way of working - it frees me to make mistakes and discover new techniques.
