Thistlestone Farm, 2024
This past summer our painting group stayed at a lovely country farm between Acton and Erin called Thistlestone Farm. This 100 acre property of rolling hills, hayfields, ponds, wetlands, and cedar bush was once a prize sheep breeding farm. After 45 years, its owner, Keith, has downsized the sheep operation, and slowly and lovingly allowed the farm to naturalize, making it a fabulous place to experience quintessential, Wellington County farmland. The trails he has created take you past ponds, over hillsides, along pasture-lands and through the bush, stimulating ideas for wonderful 'plein air' compositions. Our painting group plans to return in winter and I look forward to adding to this collection. My hope for the next visit is to include some sheep in a painting! |
